Scientific

The way I used my own technique is mixing my art with dark chalk. It did not turn out so well because you can see the lines. As I tried to go lighter and darker I kept on leaving lines and I tried to make them disappear but it did not work out for me. I did not use a source of inspiration but I did use the stippling technique which took forever to finish because we all know that stippling is using a lot of little tiny dots. I did enjoy working with the stippling technique, I thought it was fun working with it and I saw it as a challenge. I never worked with stippling it was my first time. I learned how to make stippling look light and dark also how to make it look light slash dark but with chalk it did not work so well. My intentions in this piece of art was to show a very close flower and get a person lost in it with all the little dots. My issues on this particular artwork is how my dots came out in some parts of the flower. Some have a line on the dots which shows laziness but those dots were my mistakes. I was trying to work slow but fast at the same time and I messed up plenty of times and I was not happy how my stippling came out. I love flowers and I wanted to show a flower but in a dark format and black and white is always a good way of showing dark colors.

Working With Different Materials

The lollipop is done in color pencil and the soda can is done with oil pastels and the candy piece is made out of chalk pastels. On the soda can it was kind of  hard for me to blend the colors. What I tried to do was try to blend them as much as possible which did not work to well. My colors on the soda can came out to dark and I tried to lower the darkness by adding white as a highlight on the soda can. On the piece of candy I stepped back when I was finished. I did not have any lines to show the highlights on the candy so I decided to add some highlights on it to try to show the value of the candy but it did not work so well for me. I did consider the highlights on my candy and soda can. On the soda can it came out okay looking but on the candy it just looks like white lines that just happen to be there. On the lollipop I used color pencil. Color pencil is not my strongest material to work with but I worked with it and I went along with the colors I had to use and at the end it came out okay looking. The only thing I like about my work on the lollipop is the grapes. I love how the grapes came out; the colors and value are awesome.

Up and Close and Personal

The issues I am examining in my artwork is how I tried to add more value in my work but instead of more value I added too much black. On the cherry it has a decent amount of black which to me it kinda makes it look like a shadow. I love the colors I added in the background. At first it was just gonna be a blank background but since the cupcake was dark I wanted some light in it and that is why I picked very light colors, it brightened up my artwork which made me happy. Cupcakes to me symbolize sweet and happiness. When I was brainstorming for the Up, Close, and Personal I automatically thought of a cupcake. Cupcakes make me very happy and they are very sweet. I was not sure if the cupcake would work because I did not think that a cupcake could be Up, Close, and Personal. I also had to show some texture to the cupcake which I did not do. I just wanted my cupcake to be plain and smooth that was my very first achievement. Plain is not always good but I decided to risk it. I picked chalk pastels which is very messy and it can easily smear onto your artwork. I had to be very careful while adding color to my artwork. I was used to working with oil pastels, they are not messy at all but they cannot blend as well as chalk pastels. On this project I wanted to work with something new like chalk pastels. As I was working on my artwork I noticed that my art needed more value I tried to add it with black but it did not work so well for me. On the cherry I love the way it turned out with the black. It makes it look like it has a shadow. I did take in consideration the shadows on the cherry because some people may not see it as a shadow but as a black smear.
